[bodytext] => CURRENT AFFAIRS POETRY…(©Peter Sprenkeler) Many have commented for the reason why, This literary style…in which I toil and testify. There is sound purpose…please hear me well, It is my attempt…to keep us from humanitarian hell. “A very lofty statement”…I hear you reply, But look at our world people…you just cannot deny. A frightening world…why is it we now live in fear? The pleas of God, nature and society…we just cannot hear. So I try to highlight the ‘issues’…in rhyme and verse, Hoping to generate thought…put decline in reverse. I try to motivate and inspire those more adept than me, To respond in peace and valour…and help set this world free. I feel that poetry is music…to the memory will adhere, Can make the unpalatable…a little more pleasant to hear. And verse can indeed compel and thoroughly inspire, A barren empty heart…can be filled with profound desire. So I will go on with my crusade…for that is my calling, A small voice in the storm…to help mankind from falling. I may only be a single grain…in our long troubled beach, Yet you may be surprised…at the sand dunes my words will reach. There are those whom ignorantly will scoff and sneer, Tell me I waste my efforts…the world will not hear. Poetry can never defeat the mighty gun and the sword, They do not realize…that my verse is empowered by the Lord. Never underestimate the power of the written word, For it can truly transform attitudes…positive action stirred. Such are the hopes of my humble yet challenging rhyme, Maybe one day…it will even slow humanitarian crime. Yes I hear your laughter… you say ”your aims are absurd”, “The most ridiculous aspirations we have ever heard”. Yet I make no apology…for mankind I will always care, To speak out boldly against wrong…I will always dare.
