Understand the reasoning, if you still remember how
Broken dreams refuse to die, and lover's break no vow

Longevity of life provides a sparse substitute
Elope to the end, lover's asseveration absolute
Selfish it may seem, but I shall no longer obey
Unreasonable to a fault, this is the price you pay

Ingenue of fifteen, became a woman regardless
Crossed my fingers, hoped to die, blossoming and timeless
Inked these words to prove he loves me as you never did
Don't bother objecting, you're too late to further forbid

The entire piece is powerful... but this line --- this line is.... dynamic. It is very nearly enough if it stood alone.

This makes me remember being desperately in love as a teenager and makes me so incredibly thankful that my family was supportive. I'm rather sure I would have felt like dying if they weren't. Beautiful, Vanessa... truly.

I hope they aren't issues worth offing yourself. Of course they aren't. Nothing should be. The best revenge is a happy life.

I love this poem....I fell as if I wrote it myself, the words fit me to a T....I feel in love with someone and gave him my virginity. I do not regret it still to this day, but my parents don't approve, and wont let us be together even though we are in love. They say we're too young to know what love is, but I do know. He loves me more than they ever could. They don't accept me and he does. Ive often had thoughts of suicide myself. But all you can do is hold on and keep reassuring yourself that someday your parents won't be able to control what you do or who you see. And you'll finally be able to be together. At least thats what Im going through. Keep up the great work and thanks for this share....i didnt think that anyone knew what Im going through, but now i do....

Very very very powerful piece Vanessa, especially the penultimate and final line

''Don't bother objecting, you're too late to further forbid
Enslaved to you no more, you're daughter's already dead''

Something about the penultimate line strike a chord with me, maybe its something to do with my own parents always forbidding me to do things who knows but this was ever power in its own right.

Thoughout the poem i kept getting an image of Romeo and Juliet i dont know why, i just did, well Juliet more than anything strange i know, but thats why i like who i am, because im different lol
