What colour was your sky tonight?
Mine was so dark and dangerous, so massive
So beautiful and so powerfully grey
Then there was a whisper of slate
That trailed into the mountains beyond.

Did you see the pools of cherry coloured lights
Formed by the reflection of the chasing cars
As they scurried over the slickened, rain drenched streets.
Could you smell the reek of exhaust fumes
Low laying, near the road with the acrid stink of rubber.

Were you watching the mother strapping her frenzied child
Into his car seat. I watched her rub her lower back as she
Dashed around the side of the car. Watched her wait for the
Bus to pass by before she struggled with the lock at the driver’s door,
Turning her back as she climbed to her seat, on me and the world.

I looked up tonight and felt the rush of chilled air
Dancing above the grimed streets and the racing cars.
I felt it swirl it’s breath so icy that I thought it might leave
It’s message in fine crystal patterns across my cheek
Like a delicate exotic lace.

I breathed deeply from that air
And extracted every particle of purity.
I let it rush my lungs with it’s freshness
And I was invigorated by it’s sweetness –
Standing on the street with my head flung back.

Did you taste the excitement tonight?
Did you feel the newness that was promised
Everywhere – did you feel the tremors
Traveling the length of your body up
From your rooted feet - up to your whipping electric hair?

An excellently immersive write. I found this thoroughly refreshing.

"It’s message in fine crystal patterns across my cheek
Like a delicate exotic lace."

Beautifully described.
Well done.

A fantastic piece. Your imagery actually made me feel like I was there embracing the darkness and its offerings. Well thought out and beautifully linked.

Keep it up :)))
