If not Love

When we look back at the road
We’ve traveled together these years
All the peaks and valleys
The rapture and the tears

How will we remember?
Our special place in time
Two souls perfect in harmony?
Dancing to a moments perfect rhyme

I pray we always be remembered
As two unique and gentle spirits
Who for a time and higher purpose
Were brought together to love

Even now our hearts bear faithful witness
Thru our pain and misunderstanding
The love we share and cherish
Will not be sullied or degraded

If this wonderful, special love
We are so blessed to share
Can no longer hold us together
Then perhaps destiny directs us anew

And we have no choice but to follow
For all spirits dance to its melody
And love, even as beautiful as our own
Must submit to its will

So as we look back
Let us not cry nor rage against fate
But celebrate the glory and wonder of love
For if not love, who are we ?

very expressional, although a bit of a surprise where it suddenly changes from rhyming to plain verse. Not that it alters the meaning :-)
