But no one seems to care.
He just kept growing weaker.
He lost all his hair.

The chemo and radiation,
It really took its toll.
He said he couldn't really bear it.
He lost all control.

Things just were not working
The way we wanted them to.
He wasn't getting better.
His life was not anew.

Fighting, crying, struggling,
This all got to be too much.
We couldn't really handle things.
The times got hard and such.

He was slowly losing,
Slowly fading away.
I think we both understood this,
But we didn't want to say.

There was still that slim glimmer of hope
That we kept inside our hearts.
That things magically would get better,
And that God would not take us apart.

But still he slowly faded.
He was losing by and by.
Every time he smiled at me
I tried so hard not to let him see me cry.

We both knew he'd be leaving soon.
We had to say goodbye.
But I just couldn't do it.
Why'd he have to die?

Then that dreaded day did come.
His battle he had not won.
He had slipped into eternal rest,
And was now up with the sun.

That was such a terrible day for me.
I still can't believe he's gone.
Why did he leave me here all alone,
Still crying 'til the dawn?

But in my heart I know he's better.
The pain and struggling exist no more.
He is cured, happy, and relieved now,
And he has closed that final door.

Although I'll always miss him, he'll never be forgotten.
He'll always have my ever-lasting love.
One day I know we will meet again.
But for now, he's watching me and guiding me from up above.
