The inquisitive creature will take it's flight.
Gliding easily over mountains older than time
Majestic thrones too royal to climb.

Sweeping back carelessly through the boughs of trees
Undeterred for now by the masses of emerald leaves.
Darting gaze moving as sleek body lurched
Stopping at noticing that his wing was besmirched.

Turning a lazy circle to face the offending tree limb
The entity would note that the light of the moon was dim.
Having found no fault with himself or the tall, proud oak
He would spread his wings and explain that later it'd be a joke.

The tree would sigh, being quite used to these collisions
And the creature would promise to take caution in all his future missions.
Flapping his wings with a gust of air, the being would alight
And with a final glance behind him, he'd slip into the night.

Once morning's dawned and trees have shaken their sleep off
You may be able to find the place if your steps are soft.
Look deep into the forest, at the foot of the tallest tree
You'd know it if it were an oak, if it so happened to be.

If you find an obsidian feather, lying by it's lonesome on the ground
And carefully tilt your head to better hear an unfamiliar sound
Laughter will come spilling forth from a beak-shaped maw
You'll understand the story when the crow gives it's mocking "Caw!" ^ ^ This one brought me a smile . . . an interesting, creative, and well-written (am loving the flow . . . rhymes that lie flat just sound so good :-) ) story behind the crow's caw.

I love crows . . . when I was much younger, I used to see them flying overhead and thought they were hawks or something. Then I found out they were "just crows" and was so disappointed . . . but I like them all the more for that, now.

Aiiii, sorry to ramble . . . this poem just brought back a few memories-- thus proving its quality. Excellent job :).

--Nora

Now I am impressed. Your rhythm is stronger than ever, and I have to agree with Nora; flat-lying rhymes are just so pleasing.

This is teeming with originality, and your usual excellent word usage is in full effect here. I have to say, this is definitely one of your best yet, and i'll not forget it anytime soon.

Keep writing or have a crow peck out your eyes,
-V.S.

Now at first, the name reminded me of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" which I love so I was drawn to this poem. However I found myself loving this one just as much if not more. The rhyming was done beautiful. I wish myself I could do this well with a poem of rhyming but sadly I know i will not. I hope you keep writing, but I must ask... what was your inspiration?
