I march on distant land
I brave the next horizon
My weapon in my hand
I challenge each new sunrise
With courage in my soul
A picture in my wallet
Is the strength that keeps me whole
I do not want for food or water
But I yearn for Mom's iced tea
And Dad would never show it
But he's worried about me
I don't need a parade
When I come home from this war
But a picnic in the park
Now that's all I'm looking for
I need love and support
From the people on my land
And the man that sent me over here
Well, I'd like to shake his hand
For these people had lost hope
Some lost more than that
When I see the devastation
I know I'm needed where I'm at
I'll be home when my job is done
On that you can depend
I'm an American
Her loyal child until the end

Excellent write. I am moved by your poem.

Opinions are...well...opinions. Reality is reality, soldiers go to foriegn lands because they are told to. They fight because they have the courage to do so. Few of us have this strength. Does it matter that the soldier comes home and shakes Bush's hand? I think not...I just wish I could shake the soldier's hand.
