My Confession

I am a Laodicean
And I hate it in this place
Here my heart hides from its sin
And wallows in disgrace

I was once a trusted soldier
Who always stood his ground
Who knew His beloved savior
With a joy so profound

We stood watch together
With the heavenly host above
And fought against the enemy
With His powerful words of love

But somewhere in the battle
I let sin get in our way
Over and over again it happened
Until shame so overwhelmed I had to walk away

Thru the years He never left me
He has extended me His hand
And many times I've grasped it
Only to return to sifting sand

Until I found myself living
In a land where sin is bold
Where fear and shame are tucked away
And conscious is kept cold

But once again He calls me
Pleading for me to depart
This horrid lukewarm place
I've built around my heart

"Oh Lord I remember"
" The glory of your touch"
" The wonderful times together"
" The fellowship we enjoyed so much"

"It's not the enemy I fear"
" Nor the weapons he may use"
"I think nothing of peoples scorn"
" How they might taunt or abuse"

" I fear my own weaknesses"
" My own desires that sweep me away"
" Of all men I m most guilty"
" To you what could I say ?"

"I am nothing but a traitor"
" An unworthy abuser of your grace"
" A loathsome man of compromise"
" Too ashamed to view your face"

But then I hear a whisper
Within the walls of my heart
" Russ, I am always here"
" Never will I depart "

" The walls are now crumbling"
" Overcome by humility and grace"
" And I, your Savior and friend"
" Welcome you back to your place"
