(hush baby…don’t scream)
(don’t say a word)

Hold my finger on rewind – press hard enough the clock rolls back, change my mind,
The screen lights up, and bright blue vacancy shines behind tortured eyes,
Flickering images tell stories of my life, hidden memories in black and white.
Figures act out immortal lies, tears cut up eyes so much to turn me blind
Silent smiles so easy to hide behind

Hold my fingers to wipe my tears, watch so many scenes unravel over the years,
Watch so many memories and forgotten feelings slowly reappear,
Endless laughter and endless smiles; endless love, now a void filled only by fear.
Ears strain through the darkness, longing for something, anything left to hear
(So many years I thought I survived, when really the end was always so near)

Hold my finger on pause; freeze images of so many past lives,
A moment locked forever in time, as I watch a five year old hand reach high
And I see myself pull a star from the sky; a bond severed by an innocent child,
Ruin lives with my selfish mind, for the want of something so beautiful it makes me cry
(And I’ll always crash and burn, no matter how hard I try)

Hold my finger on fast forward; squeeze my eyes shut and make a fist,
Don’t watch so many lifelong images even though I can’t resist,
Laugh at mistakes that hurt so badly, laugh at so many times I miss,
Travel through years so quickly, grow old so easily, some sort of messed up bliss,
The screen turns empty – the only scene I want to reminisce.

Hold my finger on the trigger, the gun to this empty, useless head,
Stare at the blank screen; my life retold all over again, and nothing’s changed.
I was born with a thousand dreams and promises, and with every breath they fade away,
So much love spent on me that I can’t repay, so many smiles are so hard to regain
Sweetheart, close your eyes and pray…

(rewind the tape, play the scene all over again)
(no matter how many times, it’s always the same)

(press play…)

wow... this is almost exactly how i feel right now... everything was going good and then a few words sent it all crashing down. This poem is just so chilling a mirror to how I feel.

Endless laughter and endless smiles; endless love, now a void filled only by fear.

wow...

Amazing Lucie. Nothing short of pure beauty and emotion. I'm glad to see you've kept writing, I truly, truly enjoyed this one and the empathy I'm experiencing is overwhelming. Keep at it lovely, you've been given a gift.

Much love,
