Array ( [sid] => 48131 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Angel [time] => 2004-05-18 19:14:14 [hometext] => [bodytext] => An angel crossed my path today
Her eyes were filled with tears
I wasn't quite sure what to say
Her intentions seemed unclear

She spoke of desolation
In this world that we call home
An earth of deprivation
A globe where hatred roams

And I, in all my ignorance
Was shaken through with fright
Uncertain in my wisdom
That what she said was right

She pointed out intolerance
Insanity, and grief
Nonsensical destruction
Chaos and disbelief

I turned and looked around me
The truth she spoke was real
The panic and confusion
Gave me a sudden chill

Why is it that we ponder
Over what we know is right
Why can't we love each other
Help the weak and share the light

And just as quickly as she'd come
My angel disappeared
She lit a fire in my soul
My purpose now was clear

And just as she enlightened me
So I must do for you
Compassion and equality
Must govern what we do

Let not a soul go hungry
Nor leave them in the street
We all must have a hand to hold
When trouble's at our feet

Let's try to open up our hearts
And educate our minds
The love we give to others
Will come back to us in time

I must say to you that the truth and empathy here is compelling. I wish we could become a world of empaths where everyone felt everyone else's pain and there would be no strife or hatred or war. Everyone would help everyone and not one mouth would ever go without food or one person without needed care. The world is not like that yet, but maybe if we each do our own little part, one day it just might be.

You have a talent for writing good poems.
I really enjoyed reading this - the message was clear and portrayed in your original, sensible voice, with idyllic imagery and soothing rhyme.
Its good to have you here @ YPDC.
