[hometext] => Extremely emotional . . . last night, I found out that an internet friend will be leaving to join the army in less than a month and will not be back for several years. This poured out . . . a little melodramatic, perhaps, but then so am I.

since you mentioned it, offhand
--offhand! how could you be offhand?--
and my eyes care only to see
my bookcase--
again and again and again,
I pour over it
hoping against hope
that one storybook remains
and hating myself
because I know I got rid of them all
ages and aeons ago.
knowing this, I still scan the shelves
desperate hopes of finding one
--just one! is that too much to ask?--
transpire, soon, to be futile.
and, though I refuse to acknowledge it,
by dabbing it into nothingness
I'm pretty sure that's a tear,
in the corner of my eye--
for so much do I need a storybook . . .
I need a children's story
I need a fairytale
I need to know that Good exists and triumphs
I need to know that knights return from quests.
I want to believe in "once upon a time"s
I want to pretend that all ends with "The End."
I want to convince myself
that knights all return from their quests.
I'd like to assure myself
that, as you ride off,
to save the world
(and justify and save yourself)
your magical sword gleams
with the fire of all the stars in the heavens
and your valiant steed
has a pretty red ribbon
entwined in its shadow-black mane.
I need a children's story
I need a fairytale
I need to know that Good exists and triumphs
I need to know that knights return from quests.
but though I need a storybook
to convince myself . . .
you don't.
and that dragon's still out there to slay.
(you can see it when you shut your eyes
and it exists only within
your eyes and yourself)
and, for all my love of dragons,
I'd rather you slay the dragon
than it slay you
(whoever whatever wherever it is).
and, though I can't help but hate you
for your fervor in your need for a quest
(am I being selfish? are you?)
I offer up
a few parting words . . .
set out on your quest, knight.
slay your dragon.
slay it in storybook grandeur
and return home
for people like you
deserve a "happily ever after".

Dear god woman, everything you write makes me cry. Just sitting here at work and burst into tears. This is that moment in life when you read something that so perfectly describes how you feel , you're just like yes! that is what ive been trying to say all along.

*eyes draw wide open in amazement*
This is damn near the most emotional thing i've ever read in my life. It does a great job not only showing the longing and desire you feel, but also does a great job of putting the reader on the verge of tears.
Everything I love about your writing--the words you use, the way you phrase, the depth, it's all shining prominently here. This is on another level, it's THAT good.

And he lived happily ever after, wherever he was, with an awestriking poet weaving his tales with her beautifully crafted words...
Whatever story is unfolding now is the storybook you're left with. But don't fear it. "Everything will be okay in the end. If it isn't, it's not the end."
Two thumbs up. I might trade all my other fingers for thumbs, too, if I were to be allowed to say ten thumbs up.

| i LIKE THE IDEA, FEELING, AND PICTURE IN MY HEAD OF EYES POURING OVER A BOOKCASE, AGAIN AND AGAIN - IT SETS THE WHOLE MOOD, CAUSE WHEN YOU CAN RELATE TO STARING AT A BOOKCASE, (THE KIND OF NIGHT THAT YOU SIT AROUND STARING AT A BOOKCASE) IT'S EASY TO IMAGINE "OUR" BOOKCASE.
