The ashes once fit together to form a rope
A picture of darkest emptiness flooded away
Tiny strands of poetry, meant to fill the spaces left
Fueled the fire to burn larger gaps between them
It left them crippled and smoldering, unable to be whole
Struggling to hang onto the end of the rope
Swearing to the end they were never letting go
Yet the last thread was already breaking
Within his heart he knew it was time to set her free
His jealously had blinded him, a devil in the flesh he was
The resolution he reached was to sever the last thread
Before the fire left them burned completely out
