He can hear the other soldiers marching and saying cadence out loud.
He takes a final look at the base.
In another week he will be in a whole other place.
Two weeks later he is in the desert protecting his men.
He then wonders if killing people for your country would be considered a sin.
The soldier continues to fight till the end.
He wonders if his life will ever be the same again.
He hasnt slept in days.
His life has changed in so many ways.
The soldier watches the sun come up feeling grateful he has survived another day at war.
He snaps back to reality as he hears gunshoots from a far.
He wishes he were in a place far away.
Instead he puts on the rest of his gear and starts another day. Very good write! This war has so confused me, I have gone from agreeing completely to now being unsure about whether I agree or not, but I have always wanted our troops to be safe and return to a loving welcome to the country they are dying to protect. God bless our troops and God bless America and God bless Matt's Sweetie for her wonderful poem!
Thanks for sharing!
Juliette
