Each withholding a thousand lonely souls,
The telephone book even proves the fact...
The world's faith in numbers is a useless call, with long distance tolls.

And I, too, am a single strand of 4's and 5's
A simple call not one has dialed to this day,
Area codes can't depict the feelings inside,
But the masses printed in black, the telephone book tells a story...

Browsing the numbers of those in need,
Scanning the pages of all filled with desire,
My finger comes across a familiar code I've seen,
One the buttons on my phone had dialed, one that's worn them tired.

And to think, we were once those desolate people,
And again our numbers show,
Printed for the other's to look,
Written once more in that depressing book.

Maybe someday, next to the digits, two names will lie,
A telphone number with yours next to mine.

A far-fetched dream, with promising parts,
But, my faith in zeroes and ones to host romance,
Rests on hope you gave that I've some claim to your heart. Whoa . . . without doubt the best poem I've read today, if not this week. Very, VERY gracefully done, penned with eloquence and altogether a beautiful poem that was a pleasure to read. Made me think a lot and you illustrated the concept flawlessly.

Remind me to check out more of your work when I have a chance.
