Hands eager for escape flutter over breasts, hips and thighs,
Seeking aimless employment among the soft folds to hide,
But lose their way and slip, limp and naked to the side.
The redundant gesture of an upturned palm, supplicant to unloving eyes.
My blood like a warrior legion marching to the drum to rise
And defend my honour, turns coward and rather than flee,
Flags my defeat, waving a shameful red banner for all to see,
Undoing my vain, choreographed composure, revelling in my surprise.
Subject to such cross examination, naked and pinnioned to fault laid bare,
Every second of time, stretched and elongated, wracked by blame.
In silence screaming at each moment, so unforgiving of my shame,
Weighted on uneven scales I wait for sentence in a friendless glare.
From down deep, muted in a flame of flushed embarrassment,
A small voice cries for justice, echoes once, and then is gone.
Leaving one last despairing plea that maybe they will look upon
Guilt alongside fond memory as I bow to accept unrighteous punishment.
