With the wind above me whipping through my hair
I happened upon a subtle imagined lure
And found a genie’s tiny lamp right there,
I pulled it rather quickly out of the sand
And gently stroked it three times with my hand.

Swirling out of the lamp in clouds of dust
The genie stood before me with regal aire.
I, faint, could hear my heart. But now I must
Give wishes three to the genie over there.
I stood three minutes long in thought, for these,
These were the wishes, pray, my life would ease.

Wish number one was, maybe, out of greed,
But wish it anyway, indeed I did.
I wished to always have the money I need,
“Not a penny more. Not a penny less, I said.
The genie nodded once with eyes so slanted.
“Wish number one, he said, “is granted.

Wish number two was simple, I suppose.
I wished for all my wisdom, courage and power
To be with me in times of need, I propose
That they would help me dearly in a fateful hour.
The genie nodded once, his eyes could shun.
“Wish number two, he said, “is done.

Wish number three had made me think just twice.
And after that I realized what was best.
But ‘twas a big decision, my mind felt cold like ice.
The genie smirked when he heard it, “Surely you jest!
But I was sure, and it was naught of wit.
Then I heard the heavens crack and my mind split.

The sky did not seem dim, the world not grey.
The ocean was still roaring ‘neath the sky.
The gods still danced the air, and blessed are they.
The sun still seemed to sing like fir on high.
Then I found a note from my genie, signed,
"Thank you for my serenity and peace of mind."
