8 a.m. Kitchen

Contributed by reilt on Wednesday, 5th May 2004 @ 05:36:18 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

You were sitting across the table
Sipping coffee.
Your eyes mirroring
Something of a reluctance.
And I sighed in the silence
Of an 8 o' clock kitchen
- a.m -
The scent of burnt toast
Clinging to Monday's air,
Lingering with the tension.
Interrupted, briefly,
By the whistling of a kettle
And I am awoken.
Pottering about mid pseudo-purpose.
Until you emptied the remains of your mug
And I knew.
No kiss, No embrace.
You turned and left.
Alone,
I sat in a timeless kitchen
Where the day and toast and kettle
And God damn everything else
Ceased to exist
Except for that unfinished coffee
Pouring down the drain.

Great write especially the last line pouring the coffee rest down the sink. It captured my imagination and I re-read the poem. It seemed such a final act .
Top Marks.

Wow. Really good. Sometimes it is great to stumble upon old treasures written years ago.
