Snake River, Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming

"IN THE HEART OF THE ROCKIES"

Depths of the hollow canyon streams
to the tallest stone peaks,
Whispers, intensified by the owl's shrieks.
A heart buried beneath the winter's snow
Calling me....near the wild flower's meadow.

Refusing to listen for over 30 years past.
Allowing myself the luxury of yearning at last!
An echo, "Please come back, and walk
among our kind.
Bellowing Blue Spruce, fallen timber of pine."

Pure blue mirrored lakes, reflect peaceful memories.
Dark clouds shake flurries from floating chemise.
My heart buried, awakens to be reborn again
'Tis calling, calling to me, using the song of a wren

Gentle, kind, and engaging love entwined
Snow packed peaks molded shapes wind's designed.
Yearning heart of mine, never allowed to look behind.
I could hear the heart of the Rockies,
but my mind declined.

My soul rises to hear the Eagle's nest built high
Listen....at dawn, the tiniest of beaks openly cry.
Do I dare to dream of a return so bitter sweet?
Small remote patch, headstone aligned,
frozen tears of sleet.

He loved mountains, buried 'neath, 'twas his desire.
So like him, strong, yet gentle, inspired and admired.
No longer resisting memories of precious amour.....
My heart is calling, remembering his love forever more.

The mountains of NH sometimes call to me. I know the feeling and you have described it well.

oh, how I've felt the pull of those Rockies... hard to get outta your head and your dreams... I don't think you can ever leave them behind...

And, I think that your dearly departed would have loved this poem... and you did him proud...
