Array ( [sid] => 46087 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => A vision for mother [time] => 2004-05-03 22:24:37 [hometext] => My mother is still having a hard time with my father's death. I wrote this immediately after a conversation with her. [bodytext] => I sit here and find this very hard to write. In my poems I can shape the world into anything I want. Sometimes I can even get a laugh. But , once again reality controls my pen and guides my thoughts. My parents were not only married for many years, but they were the best of friends.

Not only did I lose my father to an eight year battle with cancer, but I lost my mother to a relationship with lonliness. Although she is very much alive, a big part of her escorted my father to the heavens.

I recently spoke to her on the phone. One minute we're laughing about old times and the next I hear my mother's voice full of lonely thoughts. After a few moments of silence the words " I miss him alot" swam through a river of tears. A lump the size of a golfball suddenly filled my throat.

I had no words.

I could only finish the conversation and hope I said something soothing and helpfull. When the phone call ended, I realized that no matter what I write will ever bring him back. All I can do is believe in a vision.

My vision is that an angel will return in the form of my father. An angel that will wipe her lonely tears and hold her tight till the feeling passes. An angel that will stay by her side and hold her trembling hands. If I could give a part of myself I'd shape it into that vision.

Spoken from a son with a broken heart.

It is so hard on them. My Dad passed away 20 years ago and it took 10 yrs for Mom to reconcile to it. Now she is living with me due to health and she still talks about him and gets misty. They spent a lifetime together and half of them is gone. It is difficult to know what to do or say at times. My heart goes out to you for I do know what you are dealing with.

Rita
