  Social

Senses

Contributed by CodyJ on Monday, 3rd May 2004 @ 06:20:25 PM in AEST
Topic: political

I watched the gray shift into black
as neutral suffered a heart attack,
and absolutes became the norm
led by pedigree in social form.
I've followed leaders with hypocrisy aplenty,
I can't drink but I'll be drafted a twenty
because of clergy threatening rivers of blood,
and breakdowns in talks of the range of a Scud
I've laughed at a world that got lost in itself,
where Bono's a saint, we put heroes on shelves
a world I am more important than we,
where I'll take credit but not responsibility.
I've seen decent people full of scorn,
killing the doctors killing unborn,
while they can't hear the babies' cries at night
left all alone, full of hunger and fright.
I've let this life pass me by,
looking for the sun in this smog filled sky,
and watched acid rain as it ruined priceless art,
as toxins kill plants before their life even starts.
We've only got one world, one place to live.
We've only got each other, what we give
each other is the greatest gift of all
it's the only the thing keeping us from falling
to all the tragedies listed above,
it's not friendship, not life, not even love,
it's the only thing that helps us cope,
it keeps us alive, the gift of hope.
I'm giving you hope.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
