Why can't I be someone else?

Tsk, tsk... A word of advice. Do NOT, for whatever reason, change yourself for a guy! It's his loss if he doesn't notice the great values in you. Ok, even if you DO change your characteristics for someone else just for them to "love" you, then they won't be loving the REAL you. They'll be loving a fake, a false image of who you are...
