And nightime creatures take to wing and fly,
She rests her head upon her hand and starts to cry.

She recalls her hope, the same one every day;
That her heart be strong enough to stay,
Honest, kind and gentle in the way,
It used to be before love went astray.

But as the dark filters slowly through the room,
And her eyes grow accustomed to the gloom,
She feels herself at home within her tomb,
As past images of loss before her loom.

She remembers how she sowed a gentle seed;
Then saw it grew deformed through jealous need;
How the demons inside she loathed were all freed,
And perverted all her love to selfish greed.

And then the doubts and fears come to her door;
She had given all she could but knew that more,
Was what she had to find, but like before;
An empty place existed at her core.

Her love had always failed in this same place,
And she would fail again and in disgrace,
Retreat in shame and never show her face,
But sink from sight and mind without a trace.

And all the time the twinkling starlight made,
Such a pretty backdrop to her sad charade;
As jumping cows and man-in-the-moon faces played,
Along the keenness of her silver blade.

Wow very good, usually dark poetry is not my thing, but this one is fantastic.
