And throwing up my defenses
And I fear the day will come when I don't care at all

But it's your life and yours to live it
And if I cannot forgive it
Then you and I weren't meant to be after all

And it's a long way down to fall
From where we're standing
But these trials on my heart
Are so demanding
You chide me when I cry
But if I'm forced to say goodbye
You won't have to be around to hear my bawl

I won't apologize for caring
And I don't see it as wrong
I feel as if I'm seeing someone
I was wrong about all along

And it hurts me when we argue
It cuts straight to my heart
But I guess it's just a part of you
I hid from from the start

And I guess I'll learn to live with it
Or then again maybe I won't
I don't want to judge unfairly
And I pray to God I don't
But the part of me that's aching
Only knows what I feel is true
And the heart in me that's breaking
Only wants to protect you

I wish I'd thought before I acted
I wish I knew a way to explain
It's hard to bear the brunt on wounds
By words never meant to cause you pain

But if it's a crime to love you
I guess I'm guilty anyway
'Cause it's the one thing I can't change
It's the one thing I can say

Foundations built on false pride
I choose to fly instead of crawl
But I can't put myself above you
