the reason I didn't smile today.
You said, "take your time...wait awhile,"
before too long, my eyes would smile.

You said you knew me, I thought you did,
but behind this wall, I was well hid.
Today, the wall...came tumbling down,
I no longer can play the clown.

You said I was special, though I didn't know why,
you promised....my eyes would never cry.
Then what is this moistness, that I feel?
Finally the truth, I now know what is real.

You held my hand and said, "let me be your friend,"
a line heard often, when love does end.
But...this is not all about "YOU!"
It's about what "I" now know to be true.

I hid from myself, within a shell,
my heart is a deep and empty well.
I think I can pass this test ....in time,
If first I walk, before I climb.

Very lovely poem, it seems we often have to learn things the hard way, right?
