Sounds of Silence

Oh how I hate silence
The sounds of empty air!
For surely they speak of loneliness
Coming days of pain and despair!

Once we shared unrestrained passion
Felt each others overwhelming need
Two hearts desperate to touch
Consumed with lustful greed

Then the expressions of our love
Were so easily heard
Each moment was precious
Our hearts savored every word

Then came a subtle injection of silence
The harbinger of rejection
That soon muted our hearts
And witheld our affection

Now no matter what we write
What we try to do
The silence is there to veil
The love of me and you

And now our hearts are afraid
One no longer holds the other dear
Indeed silence has stolen
The words we most long to hear

Words not expressed with lips
Or a mind could compose
But the recitation of the heart
Of a most beautiful prose

Let’s take away this sound of silence
That so effectively masks our heart
And let us free ourselves of this loneliness
That tears us apart

Russ
