To gather the pieces of my heart
Where do I start
To rebuild my mask
And the façade of my labor
Why… you ask
So you can’t tell that I’m hurt
So you can’t tell the pain
That lurks underneath this shirt
Vulnerable
As my shell cracks
Revealing to the world
All that I lack
Hard and strong
No longer
Broken in pieces
I try to put them together
I try to gather myself
What do I do…
Can you help
Cause I’m scared
And so confused
Where do I start…
With my new life
A new heart
One where you don’t
Have a part
I get up and walk
But I don’t get anywhere
It seems I can never quite
Escape your stare
The seconds tick away
But everywhere I look
I see reminders of you
And time stays still
I can’t leave you behind
Cause your everywhere I go
I see you
In the trees
We used to walk underneath
I see you
Sitting in your car
Parked on the side of my street
I see you
Walking past me
Every time I smell your perfume
I see you
Etching the words
In the gravestone above my tomb
I see a little bit of you
In every person I know
A constant reminder
Of things yet to do
A constant reminder
Of the things I went through
A constant reminder
And a rehashing of my wounds
A constant reminder
That I hope you come back soon
I must forget you
And I must move on
But where do I start
How do I rip
My body and my mind
Away from my heart
To begin the healing
How do I
Keep myself from feeling
Where do I start
This is the beginning of my journey
