An old blue cotton dress
Some shells along the river
The "crush" was not confessed

Asleep beneath the canvas
A puppy love-type game
By candlelight she watched him
And whispered soft his name

Yet still the boy lay sleeping
The girl still looking down
Upon the boy and sweetly
Ran fingers o'er his crown

So many long months later
The couple met again
The talk peppered with laughter
Through claims of "only friends"

The games continued slowly
Between a boy or two
Til "She" came riding on her horse
And brought her friend with too

So jealous did the young girl get
Yet said so few hushed words
She watched "Her" holding hands with him
As thoughts flew 'round like birds

Bright news came to her ears though
He wouldn't call "Her" back
She knew she had to hurry
Or he'd slip through the crack

As he scouted for options
The young girl's worries grew
And so an invitation sent
Swiftly, emotions flew

Both were too shy to say it
But soon the ace of hearts
Had shown the two their fate
So here it really starts

The two saw their first movie
One starry Tuesday night
And as they left the theater
A summer moon shone bright

The school year started quickly
The football games began
A bash after the first game
Where she showed off her "man"

Exactly one month after
The couple's first real date
She knew the kiss was bound to be
For she had helped the fate

She tempted and she teased him
He could no longer stall
And in one fleeting instant
The team touched down the ball

That very same quick moment
The fireworks were seen
The girl recieved her birthday wish
A kiss at age sixteen

The football team came home again
And for the celebration
The big parade and formal dance
Came with anticipation

Her friends helped her get ready
Did makeup, nails and hair
And once they were all prettied up
They met the young boys there

The young boy and the young girl
Caught in the magic night
She danced and he romanced her
With kisses soft and light

Although abruptly over
The memories tatooed
Themselves into the couple's brains
The smell, the sound, the mood

He told her that he loved her
She said "I love you too"
But as she took a second glance
She asked, "What did I do?"

Overwhelmed by power
She took her love away
And found a new flirtation
The very next new day

She tried to make "Him" love her
In fear of what she'd said
Attempts to make it plain as day
Like it was in her head

But soon she made "Him" leave her
An older man her prey
Who did nothing but tease her
Andd soon her thoughts did stray

She hid from love for five months
Afraid 'cause she had seen
The power of her feelings
And wasn't quite so keen

The boy got a new girlfriend
To try to move along
When, BAM! The girl had realized
That she had been so wrong

Remembering the moments
She kept her love inside
For sake of that new girlfriend
She bit her tongue and lied

Try as they might they couldn't
Just hide from their true love
And soon recieved the evidence
That came from hight above

Once they were back together
Coincidences peaked
So many things related
To their past in that week

But still the boy felt skeptic
"Don't ever leave my side"
At this the girl was outraged
"You mean you think I lied?"

She told him of love's power
How it was much too strong
Yet though the girl felt weakness
She'd said it before long

They say it all the time now
And cherish precious days
For they both know their love is

Epic and deeply moving. It almost sounds like a classical myth somehow, with love of a strength that is far beyond the strength of the lovers. Indeed a timeless story. Excellent.

They've all said it all... they've left no praise left for me to praise you with... that was awesome. The whole way through... I'll keep on reading next time... take care, my new friend.
David
