Array ( [sid] => 41186 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Dear Mommy [time] => 2004-03-31 19:16:00 [hometext] => About my mom, brenda, Some background: Tree and doug were her bfs, My mom has been gone since may, she says she will be back in two weeks, this is my reply to that! [bodytext] => Sit down oh dear mother and listen to what you daughter has to say
This has been brewing in my heart for a long time
And you’re going to sit there and hear me out
It is my turn to talk
You park yourself down and you listen

Did you think your job was over when you walked out of the hospital?
Well it wasn’t
Sure you were in attendance for the first couple years of my life
Buying me what I needed, and taking me to cool places
You said you loved me, but at times I doubted it

You weren’t there as Doug’s son Sean touched your little angel
You were out side having a smoke
You told me not to lie
And spanked my “lying” bottom
I never told you, they did again

Where were you when I was too scared to go to school?
So scared that I drank sour milk to make myself ill
To prevent myself from being beaten up from the classroom bully
You weren’t there; you promised me that you were always just a phone call away
But when I called you were too stoned to care

You thought showing up to my award ceremony would repay for it
You played the mommy role again
Everyone thought you were the prefect mom
I thought times had changed
But surprise surprise, after that you failed me again.

Where were you when Tree yelled, cussed, and screamed at me?
You were standing there telling ME to calm down
My self-esteem was in shreds; I looked to you for help
You took HIS side, I was your daughter!
I can’t believe you chose HIS side and not your own flesh and blood!

Years, and years have come and gone
And you’re even less present now then you were then
When was the last time you have seen me oh mother dear
You have promised many times that you were coming back
You never followed through, now you’re saying you’re coming back again

I know you won’t be here when you say you will
My heart knows that somewhere deep down you do love me
But when will you show that love to me
To be my mother again
To give me the lessons only a mother can teach

You have missed so much already
You haven’t met George, or the women I have become since you left
I have learned so much without you
But you have taught me a very important lesson oh dear Brenda
How NOT to be a mommy

Your mother did the best that she could under the circumstances. Be it as it may she did do a lot of mistakes because she was only human.
The woman you have become is capable of loving someone like your George. To blame and point a finger does not help the healing process. Your Mother did not force Sean on you now did she. If she chose to believe them instead of you that was unfortunate for you. I bet your mother was very confused and lonely and looked for love in all the wrong places. I am not making excuses for her because I have been in her shoes except for the drug part. And the guilt that I feel everyday and night is sometimes unbearable. I chose to get help, my daughter chose to continue hating me and blaming me. And I have to accept that.
Your poem striked a chord with me and has opened alot of pain, so I guess your poem did do it's job after all.

This was not meanth to hurt you in any way and i think you are a good writer.

from a mother

Very good write, and I hope it was therapeutic for you. I went through alot of this with my own mother and I'm raising three grandchildren who have a mother similar to yours. It seems that you have moved on and that's good. Maybe someday I'll be able to put into words my torment and my grankids the same. BRAVO!!

lil angel,
my mom is the same way and i still can't forgive her for what she's doing to me and my brother and sister. I'm lucky my grandma took me in with my brother and sister. I hope you're okay. I know how it is to have a mother who doesn't care. my mom just got married to a guy she hardly knows and I never even met. and now she's off to florida to meet her new husbands parents and like your mom she is suposed to be back in two weeks but i doubt she'll come back. also my mom she'll ignore me untill i get so mad at her and she'll go to one of my band concerts. and act like she's the perfect mom but she's not and i don't know how she can stay so guilt free. i don't understand fully. Even if I did it wouldn't change anything anyways. good write i understand and i hope your better off now.

sincerely and a good friend,
linagalMBfan01

I am a male, and my daughter was touched and indecently delt with by a 12 year old boy, she was 5. I was in the next yard, I had no idea it was happening. When IT came out I was devistaed but did not let onto my daughter that I was as I felt it would increase her feelings of fear, that thankfully were not too great at that stage. We sought police intervention but their comment, that I agreed with was to let it slip under the table and don't expose her to any more of the incedent. I really hope your mother was thinking the way in which I thought, as this would explain so much. As parents we honestly do our best, some can cope better than others. Your turn at parenthood will come, it will open your eyes and it will make you see your mother differently. I am not saying you are wrong in your thoughts above but if you can trust she will give you a straight answer give her a chance and ask some qustions and don't tell her how it is. In the mean time keep on writin' :-)))))))
