Many would dispute the authenticity and relevance,
Of the Great Book for these modern times and age.
Yet it curious that so much of our society’s standards,
Are based on truisms and edicts that leap from every page.

“You shall reap what you sow” an accepted law of life,
Even non believers cannot deny this truth profound.
“Where your treasure is, there lies your heart also”
The denial of truth…only serves to condemn and confound.

“Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth does speak”,
A folly to try to refute such a powerfully accurate phrase.
“How can both fresh and salty water rise from the same spring”?
Another accepted moral law…light for our misty haze.

Yet it is our way to mock and deride things we will not accept,
We will even twist and distort a truth for our own ends.
“An eye for an eye”…we will so quickly quote to defend our anger,
Removing the “vengeance is mine”…truth we modify and amend.

“You cannot serve both God and money”,
Many of this statement would bitterly contend and defy.
Yet its awesome truth stands so prominent and clear,
No one can serve two masters…though most attempt to try.

The Ten Commandments…are the basis of our civil law,
Yet we will brazenly dispute any faith in the Famous Book.
As I often say to those that mock and belittle,
Show us some courage…I dare you to take a look!

For you have nothing to fear…darkness will vanish,
“The scales may fall from your eyes”.
Yet so few will take up the challenge…blindly they stumble,
Ridiculing the book of life…of light…and surprise!

Nicely done, and oh so true. Alhtough many say that it maybe false, that doesn't mean that it doesn't have good morals like a regular parable or short story or novel. It is God himself, not his advice that most choose to ignore. And of course they only follow the advice that supports them in their decisions at the time. Very well done. I like this one.
