Somewhere, around me
Part of the shadows
Covered by the force of habit

You winked at me when I was young
In my dreams
From under my bed
You teased me with fear

Now it’s only a whisper
But it’s there
A stir in my slumbering
A sandgrain in my system

When I lie in bed at night
You mumble
Sultry chill
Through every hole and corner

When I’m kissed by the sun
Your shadow
Tickles me
And sends a shiver down my spine

In Amsterdam
Where everyone walks their way
You’re the one
That watches me

So stealthy
But I can see you drawing near
With the growing shadows at sunset
Behind the window

So sneaky
But I can hear you approaching
Through the ticking of the clock
Above my easy chair

As wisdom sprouts
To full growth
And serenity
Settles down
Your voice becomes clearer
Almost intelligible

As your caresses
Begin to unroot me
And your breath
Starts to crumple my leaves
You start to sing
Ever so softly

My whole life
Drenched with colors
Under a firmament of grey
Is displayed on flowered wallpaper

In my darkest hour
I reach out
As your rejoicing chime
Calls me home
