Life Along 8 Mile

Contributed by thumper on Friday, 26th March 2004 @ 09:29:40 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

It's spring and the street noise grows
As Harleys and Street Rods come out to play
Hookers have stowed winter's cumbersome garb
And donned spring's skimpier attire
The robbery trade is brisk and growing
As crack is cheap and becoming more popular
And unemployment lists grow each day

Fast food places lock their doors at dusk
And revert to drive-thru, it's safer, but not much
Of course the pervs crawl out of their slimy holes
As children emerge from their homes to play
Sometimes you'll happen upon a John
Sitting in his car, staring at his lap
While Jane Doe hooker earns her Hamilton

Homeless Hank meanders through the 'hood
Gathering cans and scoping out future items
That he can aquire after dark
And pawn the next day for liquid libations
Gang-bangers roam the streets
Listening to rap, smoking blunts and acting bad
Spread out across the road, daring you to hit them

Sometimes, after dark, dogs will light up
At something in the alley. Maybe Homeless Hank
Searching for an out-of-the-way site
To relieve himself, hurl, or pass out
This is just a glimpse of life
Whether good or bad
When you live alongside 8 Mile

Nice, it gave an interesting glimpse into what I call "street life". 8 Mile never came out here, I guess because the censorship board thought it wasn't proper because Eminem was in it (hmmmphh :( ).

Thumper ~= Rabbit
(~= I believe means is approximately)

I lived for awhile in a small town that had some "ghetto" like traits to it, so I can relate a bit.

Hope to see '8 Mile' soon on DVD. I actually am starting to wonder in Em is a "Jeckyl and Hyde" in many ways.
