A prisoner of all that grief can mean
Ravaged by sins of a haunting past
Lovers so cruel, the stones that were cast

Broken and bruised, her spirit is bound
As tears like acid fall silently down
Tracing her story, the lines on her face
Scars on her soul that time won't erase

Nobody did care when the blood on her dress
Spoke of the baby who'd n'er know her breast
She wandered in dazes, with nothing to say
With each tear of grief, she lost more of her way

Strangers beds, alleys,or in hallways of those
Who would judge her so harshly for a life she'd not chose
Kicked like a stray dog, from one to another
No money,no friends, forgotten voice of her mother

Existing for nothing,breathing in vain
She took one last walk in the pouring rain
Down to the docks, she watched a ship pass by
Then walked to a light where a baby did cry

The needle still hung from the hole in her flesh
As she fell into step, prepared for her death
Always knowing her life was not meant to last
Her tormented days of a meaningless past

This moment so precious amongst all the mess
Watching her baby suckling her breast
She cast one more look to the streets she had known
Then turned to the light, carrying her baby home
