Array ( [sid] => 39393 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Flaming Death [time] => 2004-03-19 21:26:40 [hometext] => Uhhhh... the poem's about a person being burned at the stake. I'm scared to death of fire, so I don't know why I wrote this... [bodytext] => I walk along the path,
tears streaming down my face.
People yell and taunt,
jeering and screaming.
They judged me and
voted me a witch.
They lie!
I have no such powers!
Yet still I walk
the lonely road,
as I had done
my whole life.
I stepped onto the stake,
pleading with God
to spare me.
They start the fire
and light the wood piles
at the bottom.
After much poking and prodding,
a flame arises from the
branches at my feet.
I feel the heat surround my,
like a giant wall.
All I can hear is
people cheering on
the flames,
egging them
higher and higher.
I hear the cracking of
the fire.
It gets hotter and hotter,
getting closer to
touching me.
There is finally contact.
I scream in agony.
The moment the crowd
has been waiting for,
the fire has enveloped me.
The blinding flames
lick my skin,
leaving blistering kisses.
I scream and cry
and kick about,
but I’m tied to this pole.
No matter how much I
squirm and writhe,
I cannot get out.
The smoke is pouring
into my lungs,
it’s getting harder to breath.
The searing is
overwhelming.
I begin to slump in place,
nothing but the ropes are
holding me erect.
The I see a light
in the sky,
as I plead with God.
I reach up to meet it,
leaving my blackened
smoke-filled body.
The torturous
burning is gone.
No more having to hide.
No more fiery tongues
cooking my insides.
No more lying tongues either.
I am free of people. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 191 [topic] => 25 [informant] => WorthlesSanity666 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => MiscPoems )
