She has sacrificed her life.
Tears fall from my eyes
Knowing it should have
Been me that died here.
I still hold her close
Even though she is gone.
Others lay dead but
It was her sacrifice
Of love and desparation
That allowed for victory
That saved countless others.
Wishing I had had
The love and courage
She showed here today.
For her compassion and mercy.
I had hated her for that.
I brought her back home
Delivering her to the Goddess.
Tears streamed down her face.
Anger towards myself
For my arrogance and pride.
I had done what was needed
But at what price?
So many died because of me.
Because I took only our own.
I went to kill my spirit.
The Goddess stopped me.
Angered by this action chided,
"Has there not been enough
Bloodshed for ye?
Must one more child
Be sacrificed in my name?"
I fell to my knees in her embrace.
The Goddess smiled upon me warmly.
"Come bring your sister and
I will show ye child that
Those lives lost today
Were not lost in vain."
I followed her, sister in arms.
Our mother gestured for me
To lay her into the Sea.
I did so and stepped back.
The Goddess smiled and said,
"Now for those that sacrificed
Their lives on this day
I shall make two races.
One to heal and protect.
One to help you fight.
Both will aid you against
Those that would harm all."
On that day I saw two
Races born out of love
And out of sacrifice.
It was worth the lives.
All eighty-nine of them.
To protect all life.
