Array ( [sid] => 3837 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Coming Together Again (My Dad) [time] => 2002-09-15 06:53:13 [hometext] => Repost from old site...

This is for my Dad. A personal tribute to him, in how we got to know each other
again, and also gaining another family member, my stepmother, Marilyn too.
It was a rough road for all of us. Some times it still is, but at least now, I have the support of them both. I am glad I made that trip to MI in August of 1993.
[bodytext] => Well so it begins…
In 1977, a time ago, June of that year,
Would mark the last time I see you, as time spins
It was difficult choosing between you and Mom, my world of fear
So it began a time of not knowing and wondering
Middle school to high school, with one year in Army Reserves
To graduation and moving out, holding my own, somewhat plundering
Till finally meeting my first fella, a girl deserves
Then married, bought a home, and then Grandma Jo passed on
Your mother, her last wish, was to see you and I together
A father and daughter to finally speak, after so long
Mom was surprised; but took the news well; her illness didn’t weather
Three months after Mom passed away, I took a trip, my husband and I
To meet my Father, the last time I’d seen you, I was thirteen.
Now at thirty, I had so many questions in my mind, to ask many whys
All thru the flight, and a three-hour drive, we made it, to the rustic scene
Of your home, you now share with a fine woman, whom I already liked
By speaking on the phone, accepted me as one of her own
You had just come home from work, driving three hours on the pike
Tired and weary, but it was nice to see you, having gray hair and matured
It was late, but we all stayed up, getting years caught up, did set the tone
I asked my questions; you finally realizing, your daughter has procured
Adulthood, and not that little girl, seventeen years ago
That visit will be nine years this August
So glad I went, I learned to love you again, Dad
I gained a father again, a stepmother, a family to know
Now at least we keep in touch, always a must
It may be long in seeing you, but presence of time is not sad
God gave me a second chance to know my Father
Not always a chance given to others
Some may not even want to bother
Glad your mothers’ wish rang true, her angel wing flutters
My way of saying” I Love You, Dad”, glad to have you back
You have supported and given me so much
Thank You for being there now, its not the past to lack
A Father and Daughter together again, with God’s gentle touch.
