Array ( [sid] => 38026 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Now is the Sickness [time] => 2004-03-09 20:32:51 [hometext] => I wrote this March 9th, 2004 during my 3rd hour class. It has to do with feeling emotionally numb, being cornered and surrendering. Also if you read between the lines you will catch the references to Self Injury. [bodytext] => Why does numbness extend into my innermost being?
Penetrating this wall I have spent years behind
Spreading over the entirety of a personna
Blackened by malcontent, but still somehow alive.

Somewhere, buried alive beneath the surface
Of a life wasted and without a purpose
Lies a broken mind, a broken spirit
Harsh abrasions and scars--reminders of darkness.

Why can't I break free of this sweet inner death?
Retreat from these long haunting demons of old?
Memories remain to highlight fearful past
I long for the light, safe refuge from now.

Now is the sickness, the plague from the past.
The future--tomorrow--in terror we advance.
The eagle of freedom shot down in revenge.
Retreat into blackness, raise the white flag.

You drink the tears of the unfortunate from a goblet made of gold.
Pumping the very last drop of blood out of me.
My life evaporates as you drink.
The world is consumed by never ending cold.

And slowly I become a hollow shell.
