Array ( [sid] => 37833 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Portland Mills Christian [time] => 2004-03-08 14:51:47 [hometext] => This is a tribute to my church and its people... thanks to poetrygodslove for the inspiration [bodytext] => With all that's going on in the world today
People need somewhere they can go to learn of God's ways
Just to know that He is still in command
That He is still watching over His lands
That He is still the shepherd of His flock
When upon their doors... they hear His knock
He knows their voices as they let Him in
To their hearts that has been marred by sin

They need a place to go... to remove the dirt
That has built up in their lives as it begins to hurt
Where they can feel they have a family and home
And are always welcome there... they should never feel alone
This place sounds like the church I attend...
Portland Mills Christian

I know some say... we are in the middle of nowhere...
But here... the people truly care
And maybe we are small in number
But when it comes to prayer and praising... we don't slumber
We're kinda laid back... this is a fact...
But the bible is preached... not all that other...ah...um... hocus pocus
A place where you can feel His presences... almost touching His face
As He holds you close and tight... wrapping you in His love, mercy and grace

This is the church I grew up knowing
All the people that have went there for years and years that have never stopped growing...
In His love, mercy and grace
I can't think of ever going to any other place
Except maybe to Heaven... when He calls me to my home on high
And with a tear... I'll shed... as I wave goodbye...

Although we are not quite so laid back and we do believe in the Holy Ghost, our churches have many similar qualities. I feel the same way you do about my home church. It has been the biggest influence in my life. Your words described it perfectly.
