in the comfort of my bed,
or in a thoughtless instant
from a bullet to the head.

I don’t want to die hooked up
to machines that dull my pain
by stupefying all my nerves
and numbing out my brain.

I don’t want to die in a
silly drunken state,
or wishing I could end a high,
for death simply won’t wait.

Keep your bombs away from me,
I won’t be blown to bits,
and leave your poisons on your shelf
for I’ll have none of it.

I want to live through my own death,
and like Hell I’ll lose that chance
to some impatient terrorist
or tragic circumstance.

I want to feel my final breath
and know I’ll have no more,
to feel my heart as it lays still
and I lay on the floor,

To feel my blood as I empty
in a way I ever have,
to lose control over my soul
and feel too weak to laugh.

I want to feel the spasms
and the overwhelming pain.
I want to sit in lucid peace
when Death calls out my name. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 186 [topic] => 21 [informant] => butterat_zool [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

I liked this, the interesting title spurred me on to read your poem. Each verse has style and displays a spiritness to achieve what you want in dying. Kudos.

Amazing! Simply amazing... And I can relate for everything struck my very soul as I read. I don't fear death as many do, in fact when it comes, I feel it should be embraced. And I am curious as to what comes after death. But how one would rather die? I can not say how I'd prefer dying, I haven't much thought on it. But you.. You never cease to impress me... Keep up the good work, ol' pal. Love ya, mean it, Ciao!
