Array ( [sid] => 37556 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => MY SLIM ANGEL [time] => 2004-03-06 05:29:48 [hometext] => I write poetry for people, this is the saddest and hardest poem I've ever written. She sent me 4 pages of single spaces email.....I cried the whole time I composed and named her poem. She is having it published this week. [bodytext] => "MY SLIM ANGEL"

I met him in a Yahoo chat room. about
a year and one half ago.
I checked his profile, he was only about
20 miles from my home,
and so......
I decided to talk to him.
Our relationship started,
like the harmonious song of a hymn.

He told me about his life, his family near.
Also his part, in the Army, bad childhood
nothing severe.
A heart so generous and kind,
unbelievable, no one would ever find.
What a beautiful person, as this thoughts
would unwind.

He had always loved helping others.
His money, and food, never repaid by users
He's an older man, 16 years my senior.
I was small in stature, he was tall,
and much bigger.

Thus our nick names chosen, and continued.....
He called me "Little Buddy" It stuck like glue.
I called him "Big Daddy" it fit like a glove!
He was so much taller, he towered above.

He wanted to come meet me and my family.
His mother was in a nursing home, such a pity.
Much family trouble he couldn't go see her.
I insisted he go, before coming here,
to be her anchor.

My family just loved him, he fit right
into our lives.
A great big spahetti dinner, he loved
us all, captives.
Every two weeks he would come,
months were seven.
Those seven months were the happiest,
in my entire vision!

His personality stood out like a
beautiful sunset.
He was such a joker, and teasing me,
was his greatest asset.
He'd never seen anyone with such small
hands and feet.
I used to tell hm if I kicked him, I hit his knee,
and not his seat!

He was a "Free Spirit" his motorcycle free.
Riding high in the mountains, for as far
as he could see....
He gazed at waterfalls, in Fall Creek
Falls, Tennessee.
Called me on his cell phone, to tell me
of all it's flowing beauty.

His special love was children of all sizes,
shapes and form.
He was always buying mine things and then
hugging them with his heart so warm.
The kids called him "Skinny" one night
out on the porch!
"Call me Slim, if you must, but "Skinny"
I can't stand!"
From that moment on, the word "Skinny"
was banned!

As far as I know, he had never met a stranger.
He loved everyone, and always had a smile
or joke to pass on to another.
He just loved my mom's fried chicken,
even gained 3 pounds!
Lemon pie, he could put away more eggs,
than we collected on our chicken rounds.

He insisted upon doing dishes, and while he
washed, he'd tell of his Army days.
He was always so well mannered, he
respected our ways.
He'd always say "Thank you," "I'm sorry,"
and "Please."
I'd tell him he didn't need to, but he said that
was his way of respecting me!

He was truly a very loving buddy,
and protective too.
He was always looking out for me,
overlooking harm's due.
I never saw a temper, a cross word or
unkindness to anyone.
A calm, loving, caring, sweet soul to everyone.
There are simply no bad words I could ever
say, nor a bad action to this day!

He had worked hard for the same company
for 25 years.
He could hardly wait until his 30 year
retirement appears,
Counting his days, it was Alabama(my state)
he would call his home.
Every night after work, he would survey the
moon, and call me on his cell phone.
He thought the moon was a most
beautiful image.
He loved everything about it, drinking
it in was such a privilege.

The night before he passed, the moon was
full, as we looked at it together.
The moon now will always be the symbol
of our love like no other.
We were so compatible, we kept nothing
from each other, ever!
He was extremely loyal, I knew I could tell
him anything, and he would keep it forever!

We shed tears together, he would say his
were tears of love, shed for me.
And when I cried he would wipe them away
with his finger, for steady was he.
He told me his heart hurt because for me,
it was filled.
He had so much love it bulged out, there
was no room for anymore love fulfilled.

Blue Jean long sleeved shirts, pocket "T"
Shirts, zippo lighters, little black combs, and
Ford Ranger Truck.
So many delightful memories, in my
heart are stuck!
Bringing me firewood to keep us warm, as he
would say for my daughter Heather.
Stacking it carefully in the carpot, to always
give was his loving answer.

He told me I was beautiful with each hour.
Even if my hair was messy, or as he would
say, bald....he still loved me and would devour.
He told me I was more beautiful on the
inside, than the outside.
But looks to him didn't count, he loved my
heart that applied.

Whenever we talked on the net before he
left, his words were Goodbye, I love you.
I miss you, and send me kisses, hugs, and
smiling faces."
His last words when we talked on Yahoo
messenger would be "I'm Gone,"
meaning to other places.
When I went to see him for the last time, and
tell him I loved him so much, I blew hm a
kiss, and said, "I'm Gone!"

But this beautiful man, friend,
and love of mine,
Will never ever be gone for all time.
Every time I look at the "Man in the Moon"
I'll see him.
A beautiful waterfall flowing, or a mountain
beside a brook...his memory will never be dim.
I will never ever be able to say "Skinny"
just "Slim" out of respect for him!

He was my Slim Wonderful Angel.

Created especially for you, Rita
through tears.

"Please know how very
sorry I am for you.
He sounds so much like my husband
that I lost to death too!"
I send you warm love and hugs
Connie Sue

He died of a blood clot
after seeing him the
night before. When
he didn't come to work
they called her to tell
her he was gone! [comments] => 13 [counter] => 336 [topic] => 32 [informant] => lovingcritters [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 25 [ratings] => 5 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SadPoetry )

What a wonderful person he was. She was very lucky to have him during his stay here. I am so sorry for her devastating loss. But at least she got to share love with him. Connie, I know God must have helped you pen this. It is an exceptional write.

Love,
Rita

I smiled, I cried & I got goosebumps. This man reminds me so much of my father and a reminder that good people exist out there. My heart goes out to her and I pray she'll be okay. Such a lovely tribute, you are a wonderful friend. Kie

I just had to comment again because I truly loved this poem. I am so lucky to have a father who treats my mother and myself like this. I can't imagine losing him but the memories you described in this poem is what keeps us going thru the hard times. This poem touched my heart and when I read that you had cried writing it that just broke my heart. I hope you are smiling again. I have an extra one please let me give it to you. Kie

I am the one she wrote this WONDERFUL poem for. Connie has become a great friend of mine. She is a very sweet lady. This poem means so much to my heart. I know that if he was here he would feel as I do about this poem. He was my heart and my soul. He was a great man. He was a loving, caring, kind and sweet person. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. He was full of life and smiles until he took his last breathe. I don't think there is a bad word no one can say about him. If I could share the 12 pages of thoughts with each of you I would. I only knew him in person a short time (7 months) but that short time made me realize that I can be loved and be loved by someone that I can love back just as much. He loved me for what I am in my heart and not my outside. Thanks for reading this poem and Thanks to Connie for writing it. She did a WONDERFUL job on the poem.
