there are children going hungry.
Somewhere, someone’s brother
is shooting up again.
Somewhere, someone
is so much in love with their partner
that they are crying at the thought
of how blessed they are.
Somewhere, someone just caught
their hair on fire.

And the tree dances on…

Somewhere, water is building up
to form an oasis for the first time in years.
Somewhere, an eagle is snacking
on a dachshund and his leash.
Somewhere, someone is counting off numbers
just to see how high they can go.
Somewhere, someone is thanking God
that cherries are in season in Chile right now.

And the tree dances on…

Somewhere, someone is wearing the
same shirt as someone else.
Somewhere, someone is painting the Mona Lisa
to see what’s so great about it.
Somewhere, the world’s most beautiful nocturne
is being played on a piano
with eighty-four working keys.
Somewhere, some entity or force or power
or circumstance that we call God
is governing the balance of our lives.

And the tree dances on…

Be it a slight breeze or a force ten gale,
at a time of war or a time of famine,
with a recent death remembered,
or a recent birth celebrated,
be it an election or leap year,
with loves being formed or broken,
the clouds and seas are here, with God;
the rains and the winds are here, with God.
