Array ( [sid] => 3655 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => A Heart That Has No Boundaries [time] => 2002-09-11 06:33:23 [hometext] => Sometimes walking the fine line between two people that interest you can be precarious. This poem describes this situation. It is also my first poem. [bodytext] => A mind can never say the path a lonely heart may choose,
For it often plays the game of love and gambles not to lose.
The road it travels is often bitter but the goal it seeks sublime,
Like the chorus of a ballad bright, or the rhythm of a rhyme.
But like the prize of ancient lore, in time it starts to fade,
As though the object loses value, once the price is paid.
And when left alone or smothered, a heart can often stray,
For it does not seek tomorrow but is selfish for today.

Our mind it seems knows better, can tell us what’s in store,
But never wants to take a chance, adventure is a chore.
Quiet, calm and comfortable it likes things as they are,
No need to know what shines so bright, it’s just a distant star.
Our mind remembers what it was that drew us near the flame,
But for all of its great intellect, it’s empty just the same.
And like the ships that at sea were lost without a compass true,
Our course may drift from what we planned and take us somewhere new.

So travel light and guard your step, lest your heart should stray,
For the feelings of tomorrow may not be the feelings of today.
And if your heart, like a wooded path, should ever start to wander,
Then bring it close and search it well, or your treasure you may squander.
The song of love is ever loudest to the one whose love’s not shared,
And whether you’re alone or not it will catch you unprepared.
So guide your heart with a mind of truth and be careful everyday,
For a heart that has no boundaries will surely go astray.
