On those grasslands low
Lives a spirit woman
With hands that sow.
Sparks of creation
From her fingertips
Speaking low in whispers
Of spirits, fire and sits.

The Dreamtime magic lives
Within her mystic soul
She is only seen at night
A shadow, when it’s cold.
Hunting for survival
And the dunes are her home
Wind bends the yellow grasses
And she never is alone.

She tames the wild dogs
At night you hear their howl
Of loneliness and of mystery
Out o' the dunes that tower.
She is the Desert Woman
Men darn’t say her name
For fear of vicious death
Through fire and through flames.

Her hair the colour of golden grass
She wears her clothes of fur
Moccasins on her feet
And smells of richest myrrh.
Her steed a jet- black stallion
Of rich and noble name
With fire in his eyes
And a long, wild mane.

Desert Woman come to me
Your beauty is so true
I have longed for your warmth
I long to be with you.
Mystic Lady can you be
This man’s concubine
Or are you forever
A figment of his mind.

The cold fog that lies
In the gullies deep
Causes me to shudder
And my backbone, to creep.
Desert Woman I see your shadow
The shadow that I’ve longed
To see you’re form making
No one will be wronged.

She comes to me there to stand
On the Desert so
"Come to me, Come to me."
I hear her voice so low.
The spirits fight within me
And as I advance
I feel the pain of fire
And the stabbing of a lance.

Desert Woman you have me
Forever in your trance
Drifting in and out of sleep
Forever to dance.
Across the moonlit plains
Of our magic spirit land
The Poet and the Desert Woman
Forever hand in hand.

A beautifully written poem ... (might I say that you shouldn't drink too much rum or you might fall off your horse) ... a magical story though ... looking forward to reading more ... Jan

an absolutely lovely romantic dreamy poem, by far one of your best, the only thing that makes me shudder is this word "concubine"....kinda takes away from loves true meaning; to me, but overall, excellent and very pretty:) hugs n' love nessa
