and take my final plea.
They call this the "walk of death,"
to the chair of electricity.

It's too late to say I'm sorry,
too late, to say good-bye.
Only one thing left to do,
just sit and wait to die.

I would start all over again,
if I only had one more wish.
But time is drawing all to nigh,
because I chose to take a risk.

I took the keys from her hand,
and had already thought it through.
I chose to drink and drive that night,
and was gone before she knew.

I knew I had too much to drink,
but the decision was stupidly made.
Today, though, my words fall short.
The price will finally be paid.

I did not know it would happen.
I thought I would be alright.
I did not know I would lose control,
and take that little one's life.

I see his mom through the window,
hatred fills her face.
I took something from her that night,
that she never can replace.

I hit the railing, and then her car.
I remember asking how much this would cost?
Then I knew, when I watched them say,
"I'm sorry, ma'am, your son's life was lost."

I don't have anymore excuses,
sitting here with my metal cap.
I just close my eyes, and patiently wait,
to feel the very first zap.

"God, I know that I was wrong,
and I know I cannot be spared.
But make this fast and easy on me.
Help me, for I am scared."

His hand is on the lever,
as they prepare to watch me fry.
Because I decided to drink and drive,
I decided to die.

Oh wow..I have so many mixed up emotions about this poem. You see, my sister was killed by a drunk driver (he was also high on cocaine). It's been many years since that happened and I still cannot forgive him. He ofcourse died also. I am a very forgiving person..have put aside a lot of harsh feelings for those who have harmed me because everyone should have that one chance. But for some reason I just cannot forgive this man who took her life. She was my best friend as well as my sister. Two sisters could never be closer. So this poem of yours has stirred a few things up in me. On one hand it makes me feel sorry for the guy..in a weird sort of way. But still makes me angry. More angry then I have ever been. LoL..don't discredit your poem here because it brought out emotions in me...call it one Damn good poem for having the power to reach out and grab. Awesome job!!!
