about propaganda
It’s not dashed off
like memoranda

Bush claimed to be
your straight talker
Your hokey unvarnished truth-teller
Now we see he’s NOT so straight
He got carried away by Iraqgate

If we were gracious
We’d say he was just foolish
Inexperienced and naïve
That it was others sought
To manipulate, to deceive

But a less charitable view
Would be
That it was Bush the politician
fooled you and me

His place in history
A mouse become a man
What noble plans
To see a sheep in wolf’s clothing
Grow fangs

Or so they thought
This is win, win, win!
And the next election
A shoo in!

But not so now
We see him true
A peddler of lies
To deceive me and you

Whether at his own bequest
Or those behind
He STILL lied
I think you’ll find

So we can choose
Between these options two:
Weak, gullible, malleable and naïve?
Or a politician programmed to deceive?
