cold version of the same story
retold without glory she said
the same thing over and over again
until he lost his mind and left
to find some other version
of the same story with a different cover
he said LA was a place for lovers
to discover the universe
she thought he was a movie mogul
turned out she was wrong
and cut him lose to practice zen
so he sat in the coffee shop all afternoon
trying to recall where he went wrong
but nothing ever made sense to him anymore
until that waitress took him home
after all she knew better than to expect too much
with him standing on the corner looking lost
a nice tush and broad shoulders
what more could a girl want
with his cowboy hat in hand
he followed her to the hills that night
a shabby little bungalow with an overgrown yard
she undressed for him in the fading light
he fell in love with her story
and hearing her tell it
she was the perfect leading lady
