Array ( [sid] => 3478 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Witch Hunt [time] => 2002-09-06 21:01:52 [hometext] => This is a poem about the death of a suspected witch during the Salem Witch Trials. [bodytext] => Up and down, all around she scurried
"Burn her! Burn her!" they would never leave
She knew they would eventually find her
For tomorrow night, was all Hallows Eve

As she ran she could get no further
The angry mob had cornered her well
They poked and hit and kicked and beat her
"Send that witch back down to hell!"

"What if instead we were to drown her?"
A man with a flaming torch called
"Throw her in the river and test her!"
The town's mob cackled and mauled

Tying her up, they dragged her over
To the nearest pond they could find
"I'm innocent" She shouted to them
She hoped they would see this in her mind

"Throw her in" and this they did
She sunk low for a minute or two
When she didn't float, they heard her spirit say
"I was innocent, you knew I was too" [comments] => 2 [counter] => 235 [topic] => 13 [informant] => Wilder [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 4 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )

I like this poem. There are a few word choices that I wouldn't have made (for example "scurried" in line one and "eventually" in line two.) However, the poem captures something of the blood lust of the mob and the terror of the woman.

Nice job . . .
