open arms embraced.
Enfolding me with it's coldness, tightly
around my waist!
A mourning soul was I, strength stolen
without fortitude.
Naked of character, and subdued,
waiting patiently to be rescued!

With hands outstretched, complete
resignation.
Hopelessness in the darkness
my constitution shaken.
Unseen shadows of my past, hidden
behind moon beams.
Walking slowly, the snow is crisp,
my crushed dreams.

A calmness unlike any form of tranquility.
A pause for breathe, before complete
immobility.
Why? I scream in my ravaged heart....Why?
I know all the reasons, but Why?
Why did he have to die?

The month and day of his death loom
nearer and nearer......
Is this the year I can relive his last
moments of terror?
Gasping for each precious breathe,
his kidneys gave out!
Please let him go to sleep,
I pray for a painless time-out!

A very kind Dr. announced his death,
and with it a kind suggestion,
Please go home now, and let everyone
take care of you and your children.
But I promised, I made a vow,
sleep peacefully by dear loved one.
I'll take care of our little ones, I promise
I won't weaken.
A promise is a promise even 33 years later.
And I didn't!

Oh lord...lovingcritters, I am crying now. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't say I understand how you feel, because it would be lieing to do so. I can feel your pain and sorrow in this poem though.

You are a woman of strong reserve. This poem touches me so deeply. It is extremely hard to live without the one you love so dearly. It is impossible to forget or replace that one true love in your heart and life. Your write is excellent in its delivery and also in its message of strength and true perseverance. Hugs, Connie.
