HER HAND?

Contributed by Robert_Edgar_Burns on Thursday, 5th September 2002 @ 06:46:58 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Hello sir, may I be frank,
And talk to you man to man?
I came to honor you with respect.
And to ask you for your daughters hand.

Before you answer may I just say,
There’s no greater treasure in all the world.
But I’m sure you are aware of that,
For you raised her up as your own girl.

Please won’t you give some thought to me,
And believe now what I have to say?
For I will treasure and honor her,
And love her till my dying day!

I would treat her as you would sir,
Like a precious and most valuable gem!
Of that I could never rob you,
You have my word if I could be her man!

Now I’ve been to Virginia,
And traveled far from east to west.
But I want to settle with your daughter,
To marry if I pass your test!
