there's no one wiping them away
so I'll let them streak this glass
I'll wear my seatbelt loosely
-no, I won't wear one at all
my headlights slowly burn through rainy darkness
suddenly the steering turns
(but the car doesn't)
the brake pedal pushes further forward
(so does the car)
until it abruptly stops
(but my body doesn't)

another pair of headlights flash
they close in and bright turns to black
I open my eyes in my dark bedroom
it wasn't a nightmare
no, it wasn't a nightmare
-until I awoke
because the loose blankets and sheets
didn't restrain me
from jolting forward
in full realization
that part of me had already died

you can't save yourself
no you can't...

Jared,

Your poerty is gorgeous. No matter what it's about, it seems to be so uplifting just reading it. This one is no different. I cant believe I hadnt read this before now. And I cant believe no one commented. I'm ashamed. Great job.

Lindsey

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
