Freilich, über den Wasser ich mich flottmache,
Die Welt zu vergeben.
Wer bin ich? und was tut’ ich?
Und wonach geh’ ich?
Ich kenn’ nichts und verstehe gar nichts.

Doch ich kenn’, daß froh und frei bin ich-
Am meine Pfad.
Ich bin frei; frei von jeder Schmerz!
Es gibt kein Seil zu binden mich an;
Mir gibt ‘s keine Sorge zu tragen-
Ruhig mein Herz ist, nach bleib ich
Die Welt und ihre Heuchlerei.

Ohne Häße, ohne Lieben,
Mußt ihr leben, meine Kinder.
Vor falsch-falsch noch
Ist jeder Ding, den seht ihr.
Deshalb ein Weiser achtet nicht
Die Weltwege, so falsch

Wie ein Boot, ohne Anlegestelle
Freilich, über den Wasser ich mich flottmache,
Die Welt zu vergeben.
Wer bin ich? und was tut’ ich?
Und wonach geh’ ich?
Ich kenn’ nichts und verstehe gar nichts.

If you could provide an English translation (although it would lose some of its grace) the majority of readers would find it easier to comment....

i loved it though i could only read a little i speak a little german but defenetly not fluent but would love translation in english and might teach me more german too :)

I am not fluent in German but do understand many of the words(thanks to a class in German)
I am sure many would like to read this in English as well.
